Update 2: Emergency Declaration in South Mackay, Says QLD Police

Police have arrested a 31-year-old man following a shooting incident in South Mackay this afternoon, June 19.

The man was taken into police custody at approximately 7.45pm outside a fast-food restaurant along the Bruce Highway, near Hinton Street in Mackay.

He is not physically injured, and is currently assisting police with investigations.

An emergency situation which was declared under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) at approximately 5.20pm is still in place, with boundaries encompassing Robb Place, Paradise Street, Archibald Street, Kindermar Street and Denton Street.

Members of the public are reminded to avoid the area and those within the exclusion zone are asked to remain indoors until further notice.
