Update On Our Kerbside Waste Services Contract

City of Port Phillip
As part of our commitment to continuously improving the quality of our services, we're establishing new waste contract arrangements through a rigorous tender process.

Council's delivery of a reliable kerbside waste collection is critical for our community. In 2023, we learnt important lessons from the challenges experienced with the changeover to our current service provider. These included difficulties meeting scheduled bin collections, which negatively impacted some of our residents.

While our kerbside collection has normalised, our existing contract is no longer meeting the needs of either ourselves or our service provider. This is why we are preparing to establish a new contract for these services through a competitive and rigorous tendering process.

All suitable waste contractors are welcome to apply to the tender. The tendering process is an opportunity for us to establish a fresh and mutually beneficial agreement with a provider who is committed to delivering the standard of service expected by our community.

The tendering window will start in late January 2025 and close in March 2025.

The successful tenderer will be expected to demonstrate:

  • a thorough understanding of the services required to meet our community's needs
  • proven experience in similar services for other councils with comparable complexities
  • a solid track record of reliable service delivery.

The contract with our current provider expires at the end of June 2026. July 2026 is therefore the earliest we would be transitioning to a new contract.

If our waste contract is awarded to a new provider, we will implement an intensive support program to ensure a successful transition that minimises disruption to residents.

We are committed to delivering a high standard of service delivery for our community. We have learned much from the challenges encountered during the changeover to the previous kerbside waste collection contract, and we are actively working to avoid any similar issues in the future.
