Update On Royalties Transfers To RevenueWA

WA Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety

The Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DEMIRS) and the Department of Finance's RevenueWA are continuing to work together to transfer DEMIRS mining and petroleum royalty administration and collection functions to RevenueWA.

The transfer aims to integrate the existing knowledge and expertise of DEMIRS' royalty administration and collection functions with RevenueWA's information technology systems, knowledge, and information sharing networks. The move is in line with other jurisdictions which have moved their royalty administration functions to their revenue offices.

Legislative amendments and system changes must be implemented before the transfer is complete. Until then, there will be no changes to current royalty lodgement and payment arrangements. We expect the change to occur in the second half of 2025.

Stakeholders will be informed in advance of changes as a result of the formal transition, however, royalty payers can continue to expect the same professional service and expertise in the future.
