Update Your Pet Rego

Pet owners are urged to update and pay their pet registration before 10 April, to help Council staff reunite owners with their loved ones.

Pet registration is due on 10 April every year, a date set by the State Government.

Yarra Ranges Mayor, Jim Child, said having pets registered can help bring them home if they get lost.

"It can be one of the worst feelings, having a pet escape or go missing – it's an uncertainty and a heartache that every pet owner dreads," he said.

"Having your pet registration up to date, with your address and their microchip details, makes it very easy for our Community Safety Team to get your pet home if we pick them up.

"Pet registration is one of the many things responsible owners should be doing, alongside giving their pet warm shelter safely contained on your property, space to play, nutritious food and, of course, plenty of love.

"It's also a legal requirement set by the state under the Domestic Animals Act. Nobody wants a fine, and nobody wants a lost pet, so make sure to keep your pet registration updated in a few minutes over on the Council website."

Pets must be registered by the age of three months. Cheaper registration applies for pets that have been desexed, and for Seniors Card holders. All cats and dogs must be microchipped.
