Upgrade to Tamar St Bus Interchange Starts June 3

Ballina Shire Council wishes to advise that the upgrade of Tamar Street Bus Interchange in Ballina's CBD will be starting from Monday 3 June 2024.

Council has secured funding from the Australian Government's Local Roads and Community Infrastructure fund to upgrade, which will see the ageing bus shelter demolished and a new modern structure constructed.

The new design aims to improve traffic flow within the interchange and increase passenger comfort and accessibility. Works are expected to be completed by late October 2024.

The project will include:

  • New bus shelter and covered walkway
  • Two bays for buses to pick up and drop off passengers with improved bus entry into the interchange
  • Separate taxi zone
  • Improved stormwater drainage
  • Widened walkways for pedestrian safety and accessibility.

What to expect

During construction, a temporary bus and taxi zone will be located nearby in Tamar Street (at the front of 76 Tamar Street - Barker Ryan Stewart). The temporary bus and taxi zone will be operational from 13 June 2024.

The entry to the Wigmore Arcade and carpark will remain open throughout the project, however due to the construction zone, there will be a temporary reduction in available parking spaces within the carpark area.
