Premier Mark McGowan and Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery today officially opened the new canteen at Como Secondary College.
The $1 million upgrade includes an extended school cafeteria with closable doors and large ceilings fans.
These extensions allow staff and students to come together and enjoy their break times in a comfortable location protected from all kinds of weather.
The canteen area, which was able to remain open throughout the development and provide its usual support to students, was also refurbished.
The school's new state-of-the-art cafeteria is also designed to be used as an alternative learning location, with the facility able to host exhibitions and performances, and work as a classroom and meeting room.
The project was funded as part of the McGowan Government's WA Recovery Plan, which is supporting Western Australia's economic recovery through a $492.2 million investment in upgrades and refurbishments at public schools across WA.
As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:
"My Government is committed to modernising public schools in Western Australia to ensure every student has the opportunity to thrive in the best environment.
"All students at Como Secondary College will be able to enjoy this upgraded facility, giving them a top-quality space to eat, drink, do activities and catch up with their friends."
As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:
"This exciting upgrade provides the perfect space for students to socialise with their friends while being protected from the hot weather and rain.
"The versatility of the new cafeteria area makes holding more innovative and fun activities for students possible."
As stated by South Perth MLA Geoff Baker:
"The new canteen at Como Secondary College has been brilliantly designed to provide a multi-purpose space for students to socialise, host performances and exhibitions, and learn.
"I look forward to the new STEM upgrade and car park works getting underway at the college.
"These projects are all part of how the McGowan Government is making Como Secondary College a modern and quality environment for students to learn and play in."
