Apollo Bay Fire Brigade received a new, upgraded rescue appliance to support its members' response to road crash rescue incidents.
The brigade has a major focus on its road crash and high angle rescue capability and many members within the brigade are trained to undertake rescue operations.
Apollo Bay is located along one of the most popular tourist routes in Victoria and is coupled with winding roads and steep cliffs throughout the brigade's response area.
This means the brigade experiences many call outs to road crash rescue incidents every year.
Apollo Bay Captain David Howell said the truck offers the brigade better stowage to carry more equipment and built-in anchor points for incident incidents requiring rope rescues.
"We are often called on to use our rescue commitment at some complex and interesting operations in this area," he said.
"We are pleased to add this upgraded appliance to our fleet of two tankers, a pumper, forward command vehicle and an ultralight.
"It will enable us to continue providing a high-quality service to the community at a wide range of emergency incidents."
About a dozen members undertake consistent rescue training to keep their skills at a high level, to ensure the brigade can continue to service the community in a busy and rapidly growing area.
