Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence was in Mitchell Shire on Thursday 11 May to see the upgrades to the Pyalong Recreation Reserve and announce funding for RB Robson Stadium in Wallan.
The Pyalong Project is a $750,000 Netball/Tennis Court and Lighting Upgrade project which saw a complete decommissioning of the old hard-court area, including court lighting and fencing.
A new enclosure has provided two shared use netball/tennis courts lit to competition standards, as well as a hard-court warm-up and active recreation area that includes a half-court basketball/netball court.
These upgrades will allow all Pyalong's netball teams to play their home games at the reserve on the same day, creating a more inclusive environment for netball participants. It will also help increase tennis participation at the reserve.
The project was made possible thanks to $500,000 from the Female Friendly Facilities Stream of the Victorian Government's Local Sports Infrastructure Fund and $250,000 from Mitchell Shire Council.
The Wallan project announced by Minister Spence was for an $850,000 upgrade for R.B. Robson Stadium.
It will see new player and referee changerooms and amenities, renovation of existing changerooms and amenities, resurfacing of the three courts and installation of retractable backboards and shot clocks on court three.
This project is jointly funded with $480,000 from the Victorian Government, $360,000 from Mitchell Shire Council, $5,000 from the R.B. Robson Stadium Committee of Management and $5,000 from Wallan Basketball Inc.
The project is expected to be completed by December 2023.
