Upgrades to the ICT network deployable containers used for improvised explosive device analysis is one of the reasons Corporal Dylan Neumann received a Conspicuous Service Medal in this year's King's Birthday Honours.
The changes improved software and hardware used in the ADF Weapons Technical Intelligence (WTI) Laboratories.
"I was working on getting the laboratory intelligence system up to a working standard that was more user friendly," he said.
"I integrated scientific instruments [with ICT] to produce technical intelligence."
The WTI laboratories, part of Land 154-2, are designed to be transportable and can be used on-scene. This allows for rapid assessment of weapons effects and explosive devices.
Corporal Neumann said he worked with Defence industry partners and the Army to get the capability up to speed.
"I've been trying to bridge the gap between the two," he said.
"I contributed to a lot of design changes and implementations to the multimillion-dollar project."
Receiving the award has given Corporal Neumann more motivation to maintain his high standards.
"It's definitely made me have a retrospective look at my career over the last few years," he said.
"It's been a bit of a surprise and a shock to me [to receive the award]; I believe that my whole team has worked to a really good standard."
Corporal Neumann plans to pass the knowledge to future team members to ensure a smooth transition.
