US Boosts Security Aid to Support Lebanon Ceasefire

Department of State

The U.S. Department of State convened a virtual donors meeting on January 16 with partners and allies to discuss critical security assistance needed for Lebanon to fully implement the cessation of hostilities with Israel announced on November 26, 2024. For its part, the United States is announcing it will provide more than $117 million in new, expanded security assistance for the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) and Internal Security Forces (ISF).

This new assistance will directly support both the LAF and ISF as they work to assert Lebanese sovereignty across the country and fully implement UN Security Council Resolution 1701, the only viable framework for a durable security arrangement for both Lebanese and Israelis. With its announcement today, the United States has demonstrated its commitment to continue working with its partners and allies to ensure that Lebanon has the support it needs to seize this opportunity and enhance internal and regional security.
