US Congratulates Japan's New PM Ishiba

Department of State

The United States warmly congratulates Ishiba Shigeru on his election by the Diet as Prime Minister of Japan. I am grateful for the Prime Minister's commitment to the U.S.-Japan Alliance and look forward to working with his government to reinforce the enduring partnership between our two nations. We are excited to continue advancing our shared priorities for the benefit of our people and the world.

We also express our gratitude to former Prime Minister Kishida for his outstanding support for the U.S.-Japan Alliance, his tremendous work to advance bilateral cooperation, and his leadership as we built new and deeper partnerships across the region. His official visit to Washington in April made clear that we have taken the U.S.-Japan Alliance to new heights, standing shoulder-to-shoulder in a truly global partnership.
