The Department of State is today imposing sanctions on four entities that have transported Iranian oil and identifying six vessels as their blocked property.
The United States is committed to curtailing Iran's sources of revenue for its malign activities. As long as Iran devotes its energy revenues to funding attacks on U.S. allies and partners, supporting terrorism around the world, and pursuing destabilizing actions, we will continue to use all the tools at our disposal to hold the regime accountable. The Department of the Treasury is also sanctioning four entities and identifying three vessels as blocked property due to operations in the Iranian petroleum or petrochemical sectors. We will continue to work closely with allies and partners to reinforce these measures to address and counter Iran's actions.
Concurrently, the Department of the Treasury is also sanctioning twelve individuals and entities for their role supporting smuggling and arms trafficking, money laundering, and shipment of illicit Iranian petroleum for the benefit of Ansarallah, a Specially Designated Global Terrorist commonly known as the Houthis.
Finally, I have determined that Ghezel Hesar Prison in Iran meets the criteria under section 106 of the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act. This prison was the site of gross violations of human rights, namely cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment and punishment of individuals in Iran who sought to exercise their right to freedom of expression. These heinous acts included multiple severe beatings of political prisoners engaged in a peaceful hunger strike to protest the increased wave of executions being carried out at the facility.
Today's State Department's action is being taken pursuant to E.O. 13846 , which authorizes the imposition of sanctions on persons operating in certain sectors of the Iranian economy. Today's Treasury's actions are being taken pursuant to E.O. 13902 , E.O. 13224
