The U.S. Mission to the Organization of American States (OAS), in collaboration with the Columbus Memorial Library of the Organization will host, on Thursday, April 10 at 15:30 EDT (19:30 GMT), a reception and concert to mark the 80th anniversary of the Act of Chapultepec and the end of World War II .
The event is being organized under the theme: "From War to Peace: Honoring the Legacy of Inter-American Solidarity". Following remarks by officials in attendance, a musical performance will be presented by The U.S. Army Blues highlighting the common cultural legacy and music diplomacy of the era.
These activities not only commemorate the shared wartime sacrifices of the Americas but also highlight how those efforts helped establish enduring institutions of peace, human rights, and multilateralism across the region. The concert and remarks seek to reinforce the spirit of unity and remind today's diplomats and citizens of the historic foundations that still shape Inter-American cooperation, to include through the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.
The 18-piece U.S. Army Blues is comprised of jazz musicians from across the United States who perform public concerts, educational outreach, and the preservation of the tradition of America's unique art form: jazz. The Blues Alley Youth Jazz Orchestra, comprised of accomplished student musicians ranging in age from 13 to 18 years old, will open the event.
