U.S. Senior Official for the DPRK Dr. Jung H. Pak travelled to Seoul, Republic of Korea (ROK), on January 17-18 to hold the latest round of Trilateral Special Representative consultations on the DPRK with ROK Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs Kim Gunn and Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Director General for Asian and Oceanian Affairs Namazu Hiroyuki.
The three senior officials shared assessments of recent developments related to the DPRK, including its unlawful transfer of ballistic missiles to Russia for use against Ukraine. They also discussed the ongoing threat the DPRK's unlawful ballistic missile and WMD programs, malicious cyber activities, and human rights violations and abuses pose to regional and international peace and security. Noting that Japan, the ROK, and the United States are concurrently serving on the UN Security Council, the three senior officials highlighted the need for the international community to address the DPRK's repeated violations of multiple UN Security Council resolutions.
Senior Official Pak stressed that the United States seeks dialogue with the DPRK without preconditions and harbors no hostile intent toward the DPRK. The officials committed to maintaining their close coordination on DPRK issues.
