The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is analysing the impacts of the tariffs on Australia and global trading partners announced today by United States President Donald Trump.
Most Australian-originating goods will be subject to tariffs of 10 per cent on import into the United States. These tariffs take effect from 12:01AM on 5 April 2025 EDT (3.01pm Saturday, 5 April AEST).
On 2 April EDT (3 April AEST), President Trump announced his Administration's 'Reciprocal Tariffs' policy.
This policy includes a baseline tariff of 10 per cent to apply to goods imported into the United States, which takes effect from 5 April.
In addition, the policy includes individualised tariff rates to apply to certain other trading partners, which will take effect from 9 April.
Some goods will not be subject to the baseline tariff or country-specific reciprocal tariffs announced today.
The latest announcements follow President Trump's previous announcements of a 25 per cent tariff on certain imports of aluminium and steel products (from 12 March); and a 25 per cent tariff on imports of automotive vehicles (from 3 April) and certain automotive parts (by 3 May) into the United States.
DFAT is working closely with government and industry to provide updates to impacted sectors.
