Today, Administrator Samantha Power met with Starbucks CEO Laxman Narasimhan. The two discussed the strong track record of partnerships between USAID and Starbucks since 2005, as well as the importance of advancing development objectives through activities that can be sustainably integrated into business models. Through Feed the Future, the U.S. government's global hunger and food security initiative, USAID and Starbucks have collaborated to improve the incomes and livelihoods of small-scale coffee farmers and their communities, and the two principals discussed ways to expand the scale and scope of advisory services for farmers.
Administrator Power and CEO Narasimhan also discussed the growing need to build and improve climate resilience in food, agriculture, and water systems - objectives which are key parts of the President's Emergency Plan for Adaptation and Resilience (PREPARE).
