USAID Administrator Samantha Power Discusses Sudan Humanitarian Crisis with UN Relief Coordinator

USAID

Today, Administrator Samantha Power spoke with Martin Griffiths, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator (ERC), to discuss the unfolding humanitarian crisis in Sudan and UN efforts to address mounting needs. ERC Griffiths shared updates from his recent visit to Port Sudan and ongoing efforts to provide urgent humanitarian assistance to the Sudanese people as conditions continue to deteriorate in Khartoum and other conflict-affected regions of the country.

Administrator Power and ERC Griffiths spoke about the need to scale up operations and to continue to engage key stakeholders to both lift bureaucratic impediments and guarantee humanitarian access. The two discussed the critical importance of aid worker safety and the need for sustained, unhindered access for humanitarian agencies and their workers to support the Sudanese people, for Sudanese medical workers to access hospitals and receive vital medical supplies, and for civilians to access vital resources.
