USAID Administrator Samantha Power Meets Ukraine PM Shmyhal

Today, Administrator Samantha Power met with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal to discuss long-term priorities for Ukraine's reconstruction and opportunities for the United States to support their economic recovery. They discussed the importance of accountability and transparency to protect U.S. taxpayer dollars and to ensure the funds continue to meet the urgent needs of the Ukrainian people, as well as the significant progress Ukraine has made in fighting corruption. The Administrator, Prime Minister, and the CEO of the Development Finance Corporation Scott Nathan also signed a memorandum of understanding to bolster private sector engagement and increase foreign direct investment that can accelerate Ukraine's economic recovery.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Shmyhal outlined his government's priorities for reconstruction, which include energy, humanitarian demining, housing, critical and social infrastructure, and private sector development. Administrator Power affirmed the United States' continued commitment to help the Ukrainian people overcome the destructive consequences of Russia's aggression and to support early recovery and reconstruction. She discussed the United States' investment in Ukraine's agriculture sector, and our partnership in advancing Ukraine's technology sector, which is a critical component of their efforts to promote government transparency and fight corruption. The Administrator also noted that the United States continues to invest in critical energy equipment identified as top priorities by the Government of Ukraine, and they discussed Ukraine's needs for next winter.
