Today, Administrator Samantha Power met with Lieutenant General (LTG) Herzi Halevi, Chief of the General Staff of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), to discuss the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza and to continue conversations about improving humanitarian conditions in Gaza and protecting aid workers and Palestinian civilians.
The Administrator and Lieutenant General Halevi discussed critical follow up to the June 18 meeting between the U.S. government, Israeli officials, and humanitarian partners, including ways to urgently address humanitarian worker security and improvements to the deconfliction and notification systems. The Administrator noted her appreciation for the lifesaving work that UN and NGO partners are doing in Gaza and stressed the importance of the ongoing dialogue between Israeli officials, the UN, and humanitarian organizations to address key challenges of insecurity and lawlessness in order to get aid to people in need.
