Today, Administrator Samantha Power met with President of the National Democratic Institute (NDI) Dr. Tamara Wittes. Administrator Power and Dr. Wittes highlighted the importance of continuing to work together to plan, mitigate, and counter threats to democracy in an increasing number of countries around the world. These threats include information manipulation, attempts to discredit electoral processes, and threats against democracy defenders and local partners. They also underscored the need to mobilize support when there are democratic breakthroughs to demonstrate that democracy delivers.
USAID is committed to standing with its partners, like NDI, to strengthen electoral assistance programs and promote inclusive, accountable, representative governance that delivers for all people.
