USAID Chief Samantha Power Visits Morocco

Administrator Samantha Power concluded her visit to Morocco with a meeting with Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita. Administrator Power and Foreign Minister Nasser discussed the longstanding partnership between the Moroccan and American people, and opportunities for USAID and the Government of Morocco to work trilaterally with partners in Africa on addressing key development challenges like climate change and youth empowerment.

Administrator Power highlighted USAID's progress on expanding local Moroccan partnerships, and discussed with Foreign Minister Bourita the ongoing commitment of USAID to working with the government to help respond to needs resulting from the September 2023 earthquake. Administrator Power and Foreign Minister Bourita discussed the devastating humanitarian crisis in Gaza and importance of securing an immediate ceasefire, as well as Morocco's recent provision of critical humanitarian assistance for the people of Gaza. Administrator Power and Foreign Minister Bourita also engaged on key issues including responding to the global food crisis, open and transparent governance, collaboration to prevent lead poisoning, and opportunities to expand trade and investment in Africa.
