USAIDs Power Discusses Aid with COGATs Alyan

USAID

Today, Administrator Samantha Power met with the head of the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) Major General Ghassan Alyan. They discussed ongoing efforts to increase humanitarian aid moving into Gaza, safety of civilian populations, including humanitarian aid workers, and the need to address heightened insecurity resulting from looting, criminal gangs, ongoing military operations, and Hamas attacks that are leading to significant access and aid distribution challenges in Gaza.

Administrator Power expressed concerns about the dire humanitarian conditions, suffering experienced by people living in Gaza, and security risks for humanitarian workers, who are working tirelessly to provide lifesaving assistance to people in need. Administrator Power and General Alyan agreed to work on additional steps that would enhance security for humanitarian aid workers and scale up distribution of assistance within Gaza.

They discussed COGAT's collaboration in efforts to get urgently needed humanitarian aid to people in Gaza and noted the need for continued dialogue and close coordination between Israeli authorities, the United Nations, and humanitarian partners working in Gaza. Administrator Power also reiterated her concern for the terrible suffering of the hostages being held in Gaza and their families.
