Australia's vaccination program continues to accelerate. Over 4.5 million vaccines were administered in July, over 1.1 million of those administered in the last seven days. On 29 July we hit a new record for doses administered in one day at 210,742 jabs in arms across the country.
We now have 41 per cent of the eligible population protected with a first dose and 19.2 per cent with a second dose. People aged over 70 are our most vulnerable population, and we continue to see vaccination rates in this age group increase with 79.1 per cent of people protected with a first dose and 42 per cent fully vaccinated with both doses. In addition, 65.6 per cent of people aged over 50 and 72.7 per cent of people aged over 60 have their first dose protection.
We continue to support the delivery of vaccinations in NSW, where they are currently managing a significant outbreak response. Throughout week 23, we've administered more than 439,000 doses in NSW. Since 3pm Friday 30 July, we received 90 requests for additional AstraZeneca doses from GPs and pharmacies in greater Sydney. We placed orders for an additional 30,100 doses to be delivered this coming week to meet vaccination demand in the outbreak area.
Supplying and producing the vaccine
The ability to manufacture vaccines onshore has been essential to the progress of our rollout and CSL has now manufactured and supplied over 13.2 million doses of vaccine for use in Australia.
Last week, over 1 million doses of Pfizer were released for distribution.
Over the coming week, the Therapeutic Goods Administration will conduct sample testing of over 1 million doses of Pfizer vaccine, along with over 800,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine produced onshore by CSL, prior to releasing the vaccines for distribution.
Distributing the vaccine
With support from our Distribution Partners DHL and Linfox, 1.4 million vaccine doses were delivered across Australia to metropolitan, rural and remote locations, along with 3,583 deliveries of consumables.
- Ordering and Delivery. 100% per cent of scheduled vaccine orders were completed last week with one order to be finalised today.
- Australia's assistance to the Pacific. By the end of July over 1 million doses have been donated to neighbouring countries.
We expect 1.4 million vaccine doses to be delivered across Australia in the coming week.
We have also been reminding our primary care partners that they can order additional AstraZeneca doses by contacting the VOC on 1800 318 208. We aim to deliver these additional orders within 5 working days to meet demand, particularly in outbreak areas.
Administering the vaccine
This week, 1.1 million doses were administered across the country, taking the total number of doses administered to 12.3 million. It took 47 days to reach our first million doses of vaccine administered and 6 days for the most recent.
Our month to month data shows the significant momentum in the vaccine program. In May we administered 2.1 million doses, in June 3.4 million doses and for July this has increased to 4.5 million doses.
- Total sites: This week we have 5,152 General Practices, 136 Commonwealth Vaccination Centres (CVC), 288 Pharmacies and 158 Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHS) delivering vaccines, along with 627 state and territory sites, taking the total number of vaccination sites across the country to 6,361. Approximately 220 general practices and 500 pharmacies will join the roll-out in coming weeks.
- Primary Care transition to Pfizer: This week have 1,523 General Practices, 123 CVCs and 124 ACCHS administering Pfizer, along with the State and Territory clinics.
- Aged Care: 86.8 per cent of aged care residents have their first dose protection and 82.8 per cent are fully vaccinated. Across the country, 52.2 per cent of workers in Residential Aged Care Facilities have their first dose and 32.7 per cent have their second dose, as reported through the My Aged Care Portal. We have completed first does clinics in 150 residential aged care facilities in Victoria and 145 second dose roving clinics. The remaining dose clinics are scheduled for the coming weeks. We are continuing to conduct roving clinics in 302 residential aged care facilities across 23 Local Government Areas in New South Wales. These roving clinics have a focus on vaccinating any residents yet to receive a first or second does and the aged care workforce.
- Disability. We continue to ramp up our visits to disability residents with complex needs who require in-reach services. More than 16,700 people (61.3 per cent) with a disability in a residential setting have now received at least one dose of vaccine, with additional vaccine workforce providers on board to accelerate the rollout in the coming weeks. In-reach will also be provided to identified residents in Phase 1b (those that live alone that cannot access a vaccination in the community).
