Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro has paid tribute to a legend in Northern Territory politics - the Hon Nick Dondas AM.
Mr Dondas passed away in Darwin on the weekend at the age of 84.
"The Northern Territory has lost a true friend in Nick Dondas," Ms Finocchiaro said.
"He was a committed and loyal servant to Territorians at the time of self-government when the Territory was growing.
"Nick had recently moved back to the Territory - a place he truly loved and cherished. It was wonderful to see him back and I know many, many Territorians who loved and respected him were delighted to see him.
"This is a great loss and my deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends."
Mr Dondas was born in Perth and moved to Darwin in the 1970s.
He was the CLP Member for Casuarina for 20 years (1974-1994) and the Northern Territory House of Representatives member from 1996-1998.
When in the Northern Territory parliament, he held a number of portfolios including Transport and Works, Community Development and Lands. He was the fifth Speaker of the Legislative Assembly from 1989 to 1994.
