A new generation, high performance Australian Hard wheat variety, Valiant CL Plus, has launched today to support grain growers across the State.
The new slow maturing variety is set to help drive wheat productivity and profitability across Australia, with its unique package of advantages.
Valiant CL Plus features Clearfield Plus tolerance to imidazoline pre-emergent herbicides, is geared to early sowing and adaptable to seasonal variability, and has strong disease resistance to stripe and stem rusts and yellow leaf spot, in addition to good grain size, test weight and a moderate plant height.
Valiant CL Plus seed will be available for planting in 2022.
The new release was developed by crop breeding company InterGrain, co-owned by the Western Australian Government and the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC).
WA's grains scientists are leaders of the crop breeding pack, supported by the McGowan Government's investments in scientific facilities, field trials and relationships with industry, academia and customers, assisting WA grain growers to be more resilient, innovative and competitive.
As stated by Agriculture and Food Minister Alannah MacTiernan:
"Our Government's commitment to InterGrain and grains research and development continues to deliver for WA growers, as InterGrain cements its place as the engine room for breeding new premium grain varieties.
"The release of Valiant CL Plus comes on the 50th anniversary of the legendary Valiant Charger in Australia and it aims to leave a similar mark on the Australian grains industry.
"We are continuing to fuel the robustness in the WA grains industry, through investments in research capability, infrastructure and equipment across the regions to assist growers to produce more with less and remain internationally competitive."
