The new scholarship will support advanced study by public school professionals who work in Davidson and surrounding Tennessee counties.
Vanderbilt University Peabody College, one of the nation's top colleges of education and human development, is now offering a partial-tuition scholarship for public school educators in Davidson and surrounding Tennessee counties.
Teachers and other education professionals who work full time and are in good standing in public school districts in the Nashville metropolitan area and are admitted to selected Peabody master's degree programs will receive a partial tuition scholarship through the Nashville Metropolitan Area K-12 Public School Scholarship.
"Peabody College has long developed talented graduates for the education workforce in our area," said Camilla P. Benbow, Patricia and Rodes Hart Dean of Education and Human Development. "With this new scholarship, we want to create opportunities for current teachers and leaders to add to their knowledge and have an even greater impact on student success."
The Nashville Metropolitan Area K-12 Public School Scholarship is available to public school professionals who work in Cannon, Cheatham, Davidson, Dickson, Hickman, Macon, Maury, Robertson, Rutherford, Smith, Sumner, Trousdale, Williamson, and Wilson counties.
"The scholarship reduces financial barriers and opens new pathways for continued learning and discovery among area educators," said Catherine Gavin Loss, senior associate dean for academic affairs and professional education at Peabody. "Earning a master's degree can put professional advancement within reach, and we want to help make that possible," Loss said.
Master's degree programs for which the new scholarship would be well-suited include Education Policy; Innovative Design and Technology in Education; Leadership and Organizational Performance; Learning, Diversity and Urban Studies; and Reading Education. Courses in these programs will be offered at times conducive to working professionals.
Peabody College master's degree programs blend meaningful classroom learning, practical application, and exposure to the latest research evidence and findings in educational research. The college offers more than 20 master's degree programs.
Peabody's priority application deadline is January 3, 2025, for students planning to enroll in 2025-2026. Accepted applicants will automatically be eligible for the new scholarship after providing proof of employment. Once enrolled, students must demonstrate satisfactory progress and continued employment in eligible counties.
