Vehicle Immobiliser Subsidy Deadline Now Dec. 31

Queensland Police are encouraging Cairns, Townsville and Mount Isa residents to redeem their existing Vehicle Immobiliser vouchers, after the trial was extended until December 31, 2024.

The $500 subsidy voucher aims to help reduce car thefts in a bid to keep communities safe and deter property crime offenders, and can fully offset the cost of the device's purchase and installation.

There have been no reports of a vehicle fitted with an immobiliser being stolen in Queensland, with the devices preventing thefts on several occasions.

Since launching in August 2023, 20,242 vouchers have been obtained across the three districts, with 8,901 of those having been redeemed as of October 3.

Superintendent Dean Cavanagh is encouraging anyone with a voucher to redeem it and play their part in preventing crime.

"This initiative has been very successful across Cairns, Townsville and Mount Isa, and this is an easy and affordable way to protect your vehicle from thieves," Superintendent Cavanagh said.

"While our officers are working hard to protect our community, and these immobilisers play an important role as we continuing to target property crime offenders."

"We encourage anyone with a voucher to go online and book an installation as soon as possible."
