Police are investigating after a vehicle was stolen during an aggravated break and enter in the Riverina region yesterday, NSW Police say.
About 1pm yesterday, a 69-year-old man was standing outside his unit on Quandong Street, Leeton, when he called out to an unknown male in a park on Quandong Street.
The man returned inside and the unknown male forced entry to the unit, demanding money and fleeing with cash.
A short time later, the man left his unit and walked towards his car, a 2005 Ford Falcon, parked in the driveway, when he was approached by two males.
Police have been told the man returned to his unit and was followed by the males, when he was assaulted by one of them.
He sustained facial bruising and swelling and a laceration to his right ear.
The intruders stole the man’s wallet and car keys and fled the scene in the Ford.
Emergency services attended and the injured man was taken to Leeton Hospital for treatment.
Further inquiries revealed the man’s bank cards were fraudulently used at two businesses – a service station on Kurrajong Avenue and a liquor store on Wamoon Avenue.
Officers from Griffith Local Area Command are investigating the incident and would like to speak to two males who may be able to assist them.
The first male is described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, 175cm tall, aged between 20 and 30, with tattoos on his chest and stomach.
The second male is described only as being aged between 15 and 20 and wearing a yellow t-shirt.
