Cessnock City Library is set to host veteran commando, Scott Ryder from 6-7pm on Thursday 22 August as he shares his harrowing yet inspiring new book, Forged in Fire: An Australian Commando's Story of Life and Death on the Frontline.
Ryder served 22 years in the Australian Army, including 16 years as a member of the elite 2ndCommando Regiment, served in East Timor, and completed multiple tours in Afghanistan and Iraq.
He holds numerous commendations, a Masters of Business, and works with veteran charities to improve the life of veterans and their families.
Ryder's new book Forged in Fire chronicles his journey from rigorous training to combat missions and will take audiences deep into the secretive world of commandos.
The book delves into the physical and mental resilience demanded of special forces operators and highlights Ryder's remarkable survival following a catastrophic Black Hawk helicopter crash in Kandahar, where he miraculously returned to active duty as the sole survivor.
Library Services Coordinator Andrew Powell said this event is a great opportunity to come along, meet veteran commando and published author, and delve deeper into his fascinating story.
"We're honoured to host Scott Ryder and hear first-hand his grappling account of courage and resilience detailed in his book Forged in Fire," said Mr Powell.
"This event is a wonderful opportunity for our community to connect with a veteran Australian commando and gain insight into the powerful narrative that shapes our understanding of service and sacrifice."
Books will be available for purchase and signing on the night.
