VETERANS who have experience in setting-up and running their own successful businesses will provide their insights as new members of the Industry Advisory Committee on Veterans' Employment as part of the Prime Minister's Veterans' Employment Program.
Minister for Veterans' Affairs Darren Chester today welcomed Peter Liston from the Veteran Community Business Chamber, Emily Frizell Chief Executive Officer of Aero PM and Jeremy Holder founder and Managing Director of TacMed Australia to the committee.
"The Committee was established in 2017 to provide advice on practical measures and creative solutions to provide greater employment opportunities for veterans and having these three voices added to the already impressive membership will be of great benefit," Mr Chester said.
"Peter has a great record of achievement and along with his business partner Matthew Moseley has set-up a Veteran Community Business Chamber and is currently promoting the products and services of veteran-owned businesses through their #BuyVeteran campaign.
"Emily and her company AeroPM boast 90 per cent veteran employment, experiencing rapid growth and success in their professional consulting company, which now actively seeks out veterans to employ.
"Jeremy set-up his business TacMed Australia, which provides medical supplies and training to veteran and other members of the workforce with challenging and interesting careers.
"These three individuals are all past winners of the Prime Minister's Veterans' Employment Awards and their perspectives will be of great benefit to the Committee. I look forward to working with them and the other members."
Co-founder of the Veteran Community Business Chamber Peter Liston said the training and skills from a military career are directly relatable to starting and running a successful start-up or small business.
"The veteran community continues to be a positive force in the community and leading contributors to veteran employment," Mr Liston said.
CEO AeroPM Emily Frizell said AeroPM was excited to join the Industry Advisory Committee on Veterans' Employment.
"We look forward to sharing our thoughts on practical measures to embed veteran employment strategies into the recruitment practices and workforce policies of Australian business, and developing initiatives to support veterans' employment," Mrs Frizell said.
Mr George Frazis has also been reconfirmed as Chair of the Industry Advisory Committee on Veterans' Employment. Mr Frazis, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Bank of Queensland, and a veteran himself, brings leadership, passion and a commitment to veteran employment to the role as Chair.
In the recent budget, the Australian Government cemented its commitment to support veteran employment outcomes, providing a further $6 million for the continuation of the Prime Minister's Veterans' Employment Program, which includes support for the Industry Advisory Committee on Veteran Employment.
The Industry Advisory Committee is represented by veteran employers in a range of organisations and industries; the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Allied Express Specialised Logistics, Boeing Defence Australia, Clayton Utz, PwC, Saab Australia, Serco Australia, Raytheon and Westpac.
JP Morgan will continue its involvement through the representation of the Australian Veteran Employers Coalition, which is working to connect job-seeking veterans and their partners with meaningful employment.
