Veteran Officers Join QPS on Gold Coast

The Gold Coast Police District has welcomed 11 new frontline officers, each bringing valuable experience from interstate and international policing jurisdictions. These officers have successfully completed the Police Abridged Competency Education (PACE) program, an 18-week course that builds on their extensive previous experience and equips them with the knowledge of Queensland laws and procedures.

Chief Superintendent Craig Hanlon expressed his enthusiasm for the program and the contribution these officers will make to the Gold Coast.

"These officers bring with them a wealth of experience from a range of policing environments, including New South Wales, Victoria, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and Canada. They are a welcome addition to our Queensland Police family," Chief Superintendent Hanlon said.

"They have demonstrated exceptional commitment throughout the PACE program, which recognises their existing skills while providing essential training on Queensland's legal and operational environment.

"These officers will now enter an intensive 12-month operational training period with mentors, ensuring they are fully prepared to serve the community."

The PACE program accelerates the recruitment process by focusing on QPS-specific training, allowing officers to hit the ground running. Once allocated across key stations, including Surfers Paradise, Southport, Coomera, Runaway Bay, Palm Beach, and Pimpama, they will embark on six months of operational training under the supervision of experienced officers, followed by an additional six months of further training.

Chief Superintendent Hanlon added, "This cohort will play a vital role in maintaining safety across the Gold Coast - especially as we head into some of our busiest months of the year with the GC500, Schoolies and the festive season. Their diverse backgrounds and experience ensure they are ready for the challenges unique to our region."
