A brand-new skate space decorated in a vibrant mural has transformed a former sporting hub into a skateboarding haven right in the heart of Kendall.
Built on the site of the former Kendall Tennis Club courts on Graham Street, the recently completed skate space has put new life into the old tennis club site.
The site's revival comes courtesy of $450,000 in funding from the NSW Government.
Port Macquarie Hastings Council (PMHC) co-contributed $150,000 to the project, which includes more than 715sqm of skate space with a range of elements to test and refine skills.
These include a snake run, a 500mm high mogul with rainbow rail, 900mm deep square bowl and 1200mm high quarter pipe with hips and bowl section.
The skate space has also been transformed with a vibrant mural painted by local street artist INDO, whose work covers the entirety of the park with a skate enabling coating.
PMHC Group Manager Liveable Communities, Lucilla Marshall, thanked the NSW Government and local skateboarding community for their important contributions to this important project.
"This has been a community inclusive project led by Council, supported by the NSW Government and our key skateboarding user groups," Ms Marshall said.
"I want to thank each one for the contributions made, and to INDO for the magnificent mural which has provided a vibrant finish to this incredibly important community facility."
Future stages of this project will include a play space at Kendall Recreation Reserve, and subject to available funding, an additional half basketball court.
To celebrate this newly delivered space, a Skate Jam will be held on Sunday September 15 from 10am - 2pm.
It includes free skateboarding lessons, a skate jam and demonstration with prizes and giveaways. A barbecue and cold drinks will be provided thanks to Kendall Tennis Club.
