The Victorian Government is rolling out a standardised approach for all household waste and recycling services across the state. This means that all councils will be required to comply with the Victorian Government's regulations and service standards.
Their proposed regulations and service standards are currently available for community members to provide feedback on.

What the proposed changes mean for you
There are some key changes the Victorian Government is proposing which may impact our community.
New glass recycling service
A fourth kerbside bin for glass recycling is required to be introduced by 1 July 2027.
Standardised bin lid colours
We're required to transition to new bin lid colours to comply with the statewide standardised bin lid colours. The original deadline was 2030, however the regulations and service standards propose this is brought forward to 1 July 2027.
No compostable FOGO caddy liners
Compostable liners would no longer be allowed in your lime-green lidded FOGO bin. This includes the current Council supplied AS4736 certified liners that encourage food waste separation from the general waste stream.
Reducing what's accepted in your recycling bin
Items currently accepted in your yellow-lidded recycling bin would be significantly reduced. Some examples of items which the Victorian Government is proposing not to accept include:
- plastic meat trays
- frozen food cartons and tubs
- all cordial bottles.
