Oliver Peake has been named in Victoria's 13-player squad for its crucial one-day match against New South Wales at Cricket Central in Sydney on Sunday.
In what is a must-win game for Victoria's title aspirations, the talented Peake comes into the squad off the back of an impressive performance for Victoria's Second XI team earlier this week, where he scored 99 runs.
Victoria will be looking for a strong response after last week's away loss to Tasmania, needing a win over its archrival and for Western Australia to defeat Queensland, to qualify for the One-Day final.
Victorian Head Coach Chris Rogers discussed Oliver Peake's inclusion and his side's focus heading into Sunday.
"'Peakey' is different to just about every young player that comes into a squad," said Rogers.
"The young players that get identified come in and hit the ball hard, but Ollie has more of that skill to manipulate the ball into gaps for ones and twos and build an innings, which is something that is very hard to teach, so he's an exciting player."
"Ollie is somebody who will compliment Harry Dixon a lot too, so between both of those players, you've got some exciting and exceptional talents coming through our system."
"NSW always have very talented players throughout the team, so it's up to us to play a consistent game and put them under pressure early. We know what's at stake, but if we can stay focused on our strategy and, that will keep us in good stead to perform to the best of our ability and get the result we want."
Victoria faces NSW on Sunday, February 23 from 10:00 AM AEDT with the match to be streamed on cricket.com.au and Kayo Sports.
