Port Phillip Crime Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for witnesses following a burglary in Balaclava in January.
Investigators have been told a man attended a residential property on Blenheim Street, Balaclava about 8am on 29 January.
It is understood he forced entry into the property and fled the scene with bags containing the victim's property.
The man returned to the street about 1pm later in the day before entering a second property.
It's believed the man stole a set of car keys before driving the victim's car a short distance down the driveway.
He fled the scene on foot after the victim yelled out, leaving the stolen car in the driveway.
Investigators have released images and CCTV footage of a man they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.
The man is perceived as being of Caucasian appearance, 28 to 40-years-old, about 175cm tall, with a medium build, tanned skin and brown hair.
CCTV footage depicts a tattoo of writing on the man's right forearm.
He was seen wearing a black t-shirt, black tracksuit pants with two white stripes down the side, a dark green camouflage print cap and white runners.
Earlier in the day the man was seen wearing a fluoro orange long sleeve top.
