The Allan Labor Government has secured yet another blockbuster sporting event with the Super Netball Final to be played at Rod Laver Arena in August - in a win for netball lovers across the state.
Minister for Tourism Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos today announced that Rod Laver Arena will host the 2025 final which could see more than 14,000 fans pack the stadium - making it the biggest ever crowd at a Suncorp Super Netball Grand Final.
The 2023 grand final at John Cain Arena drew thousands of fans from around the country, with a sold-out crowd of 9,622 witnessing a thriller between the New South Wales Swifts and the Adelaide Thunderbirds - and an economic impact of more than $6.9 million for Victoria.
Fans flock to Super Netball games in record numbers, with more than 330,000 people attending home and away games in 2024 - a 25 per cent increase on 2023.
As part of the Labor Government's partnership with Netball Australia, major netball events have been played across the state including the Origin Australian Diamonds series against England last September in Bendigo and a Constellation Cup battle with New Zealand in October at John Cain.
Also announced late last year, the Labor Government is bringing national netball events to regional Victoria so fans can experience the magic and excitement close to home. In a landmark three-year partnership with Netball Victoria, three annual pre-season events will take place in Ballarat, Bendigo and Traralgon.
As part of the deal, Netball Victoria will host junior clinics, fan engagement opportunities and coaching and umpiring workshops in the regional towns.
Victoria has a blockbuster pipeline of major events across the state for 2025, including the Formula 1 Grand Prix, the British and Irish Lions Tour, the Rip Curl Pro, LEGO Star Wars Exhibition and Beetlejuice the Musical - all contributing to Victoria's growing visitor numbers while injecting $3.3 billion into the state's economy.
As stated by Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos
"This is an event that draws fans and families from across the state and around Australia - bringing netball fans to our hotels, restaurants and attractions and backing local businesses and jobs."
"We're bringing elite netball to all corners of the state so fans and families can experience the highest level of competition close to where they live - with those benefits flowing into local communities."
