Victorian grain growers are being provided with a unique opportunity to learn about avenues for farm profitability at a one-day Farm Business Update in Bendigo on March 9.
The Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) event will bring growers and advisers together in the first face-to-face opportunity for some time.
GRDC Grower Relations Manager – South, Courtney Ramsey, said this month's event had several high-profile presenters covering issues such as carbon and the grains industry, as well as current trends in global markets.
"The GRDC Farm Business events bring local growers and advisers up-to-date on the latest insights on farm business topics that have a bearing on profitability," Ms Ramsey says.
"All growers, advisers and other industry personnel are encouraged to attend to learn from the experts on farm business matters and to network with other growers, advisers and farm business professionals.
"GRDC is excited to be returning to a face-to-face format for this event, as we know the networking opportunities it provides are highly regarded within the Victorian grains industry."
The Farm Business Update at the All Seasons Resort Hotel will be led by keynote speaker Professor Richard Eckard from Melbourne University, who will simplify carbon market dynamics and the potential opportunities and risks to consider as a grain grower.
Professor Eckard was recently named on the Reuters list of the world's 1,000 most influential climate scientists and was appointed in 2021 as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering.
Michael Whitehead, Director of Client Insights from ANZ, will then provide an overview of global markets and the impact on Australian growers.
Mr Whitehead has been featured widely in global media outlets, including CNBC, the Financial Times and the Wall Street Journal. He has a background in agricultural production and consulting, particularly in Australia and China.
Other topics to be covered include reducing exposure to input price shocks, getting more out of fertiliser, accessing labour resources, and business structures and strategies to support generational transfer.
Catering will be provided throughout the day, and registration is essential to ensure a COVID-19 safe event.
