An alleged Raiders Outlaw Motorcycle Gang (OMCG) member has been charged with firearms and drug offences, following an AFP-led Victorian National Anti-Gangs Squad (NAGS) investigation.
The man, 35, was arrested at his Chirnside Park home on 20 July, 2022, after AFP and Victoria Police NAGS investigators executed a warrant at the property.
He faced the Melbourne Magistrates Court on 20 July 2022, where he was remanded until a further court date in October.
The investigation targeting the criminal activities of the Raiders OMCG began in November 2021 and related to the alleged attempted importation of amphetamines through the mail.
During the search warrant, police seized electronic devices, alleged drug paraphernalia, a taser, OC spray, and a Gel Blaster Glock 18 with a detachable magazine.
The man has been charged with:
- Importing a marketable quantity of border controlled drugs, contrary to section 307.2 of the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth);
- Possession of an imitation firearm, contrary to the Controlled Weapons Act (VIC); and
- Possess prescription drug of dependence contrary to the Drugs Poisons and Controlled Substances Act (VIC).
The maximum penalty for these offences is imprisonment for 10 years, 2 years and 2 years respectively.
AFP Detective Sergeant Jessica Gilmore said outlaw motorcycle gangs are heavily involved in drug trafficking across Australia and have a callous disregard for the harm they cause our communities.
"The AFP is working tirelessly with Victoria Police and other partners to protect the community and create a hostile environment for outlaw motorcycle gangs trying to operate their criminal operations in Victoria," she said.
"The seriousness of this firearms seizure cannot be understated. Gel blasters, also referred to as 'gel ball blasters', are prohibited firearms in Victoria. They closely resemble military-style firearms and function as air guns."
The man has been remanded in custody.
