Vietnam Airlines' Inaugural Non-Stop Flight Lands in Perth

  • New non-stop service between Ho-Chi Minh City and Perth touches down at Perth Airport later this evening
  • Three flights a week providing nearly 43,000 inbound seats to WA each year
  • Supported by the Cook Government in partnership with Perth Airport

Vietnam Airlines' inaugural non-stop flight between Ho Chi Minh City and Perth touches down at Perth International Airport later this evening, marking the start of a new three-weekly route between the two cities.

The new service will provide nearly 43,000 inbound seats each year to Western Australia, which will tap into the emerging Vietnamese market and build on the 11,000 visitors who travelled to WA in the year ending June 2023 - many of whom come to holiday or visit family and friends.

This takes the Cook Government's number of new or relaunched non-stop international services into Perth to 18 destinations since the pandemic, as part of the $75 million Aviation Recovery Fund.

The new flights further build on the Cook Government's efforts to bolster business opportunities and partnerships between WA and Vietnam, following the opening of its new Invest and Trade WA office in Ho Chi Minh City in March this year.

The nation is also WA's 14th largest trading partner, with total trade of $2.4 billion in 2022-23.

There are more than 20,000 Vietnamese-born people living in WA, and Vietnamese is the third most reported language other than English spoken in WA homes.

As stated by Premier Roger Cook:

"This new flight opens up new opportunities between WA and Vietnam, and delivers a new visitor market for our business and tourism sectors supporting local jobs and the economy.

"It further cements our airlinks with South East Asia, helping to build our strong relationships in the region.

"WA's Vietnamese community has played an important role in our social, economic and cultural development as a State, and we look forward to continuing to grow our opportunities with Vietnam."

As stated by Tourism Minister Rita Saffioti:

"The new Vietnam Airlines service comes during one of the busiest periods in WA's aviation history, with multiple direct and non-stop services secured by our government in the last 12 months, solidifying our reputation as Australia's Western Gateway.

"Direct flights form an important part of our tourism strategy because we know people are more likely to travel places that are easier to access, so we're really excited to have another one taking to the skies.

"We really look forward to welcoming more visitors from Vietnam each year to enjoy our beautiful State, and further strengthening our ties with South East Asia."
