King’s College London

The VIEWER population health management of psychosis platform, co-developed by the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience and South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, has received high commendation for Best Mental Health Partnership with the NHS at the 2022 HSJ Partnership Awards.

HSJ awards 2022 VIEWER platform

Last week, the VIEWER platform (Visualisation & Interaction With Electronic Records) received a high commendation for the Best Mental Health Partnership with the NHS at this year's HSJ Partnership Awards. The award recognises the team's ongoing innovative and collaborative partnerships with the NHS and commitment to healthcare.

The VIEWER platform is a novel tool co-developed by researchers, clinicians, and informaticians at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) at King's and South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust to support population management of psychosis.

The platform intelligently filters and presents clinical information to help clinicians design services that meet population needs. This will improve health outcomes for psychosis patients.

The partnership represents close working between the Psychosis Clinical Academic Group (CAG) and the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre's Clinical Record Interactive Search (CRIS) and CogStack teams.

We are absolutely delighted to get a high commendation in the 'Best Mental Health Partnership with the NHS' category. VIEWER was recognised as a true collaboration between academic and clinical institutions that is giving clinicians the tools to improve care for patients. This award has inspired us to continue working with clinicians and patients to provide more intuitive ways of getting the information that matters to the people that need it.– Dr David Codling, Consultant in Liaison Psychiatry at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the IoPPN, King's

Following a rigorous judging process, involving a wide panel of judges from across the healthcare sector, the VIEWER platform had been chosen as a finalist in the Best Mental Health Partnership with the NHS, followed by this special recognition.

The awards were announced last week at a private awards ceremony held at Park Plaza, Westminster. The ceremony was attended by leaders and professionals from both the NHS and private sector as well as figures from non-clinical backgrounds. Hosted by celebrity guest Tom Allen, the evening was a true celebration of the achievements and collaborative partnerships in healthcare across a total of 18 categories.

Much of healthcare, and psychiatry in particular, is under resourced and crisis driven. The VIEWER platform aims to give clinicians, local healthcare managers and patients the information they need to better target services and interventions in the right place and to the right people. The aim is to allow more equitable access and more effective prevention. We are very pleased that the HSJ has recognised the value of this approach and we hope we can build on it to demonstrate improved health outcomes within the communities we serve.– Dr Robert Harland, Clinical Director for the Psychosis Clinical Academic Group and Caldicott Guardian at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust

Dave West, Health Service Journal's Deputy Editor congratulated the team on their successful win: "This year's entrants displayed a varied range of projects and partnerships, all working together to benefit the nation's healthcare sector. On this occasion, I congratulate the VIEWER platform on getting highly commended in the Best Mental Health Partnership with the NHS and I look forward to learning the future of their projects, now with the added accolade from the HSJ family."
