In celebration of NAIDOC Week (July 2 – 9), we interviewed Senior Constable Aaron Hartwell, a First Nations officer with the Queensland Police Service, about his experience and achievements in the Service.
Senior Constable Hartwell was born in Thuringowa but grew up mostly in Logan, before commencing his career with the QPS at the age of 22.
Over the last five years, he has served the Cherbourg community and most notably, started the Junior Police Rangers Program for children at the Cherbourg Primary School.
The Junior Police Rangers program provided the children with opportunities including travelling to Noosa and learning to surf, playing cricket and meeting Australian cricketer, Matthew Hayden.
For Christmas one year, Senior Constable Hartwell, with the assistance of the West End State School, facilitated the donation of bicycles for the children.
He expected only a handful and ended up receiving around 70 bicycles, with each child receiving their own bike.
Recently, Senior Constable Hartwell moved to the Dutton Park Station where he continues proudly serving his community.
