Police investigating a fatal crash in Douglas on February 6 have released vision of a motorcyclist who they wish to speak to who was travelling in the vicinity prior to the crash.
Around 12.45am on Sunday, February 6 a white VW Golf was travelling outbound on the Ring Road when it left the roadway, crashing through a fence before coming to a rest in bushland / drainway area.
The passenger, a 23-year-old Bushland Beach man, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver, a 25-year-old Nome man, was transported to Townsville University Hospital in a serious condition.
Police wish to speak to a motorcyclist who left an address in Cluden around 12.35am, and turned right from Racecourse Road onto Abbott Street, then continued onto University Road, where the white VW Golf turned left from Stuart Road, Wulguru onto University Road.
They both continue along University Road, coming to a stop at the traffic lights at Melton Black Road, with the motorcyclist in front of the VW Golf, and a second white car beside the motorcyclist.
They both then drove off from the traffic lights with VW Gold following motorcyclist. They continued along the Ring Road where the VW Golf was then travelling in front of the motorcycle.
Police wish to speak to the motorcyclist about the moments prior to the crash as they may have information that can assist with investigations. It is likely the rider is unaware the VW Golf later crashed.
The Forensic Crash Unit is appealing for the motorcyclist or any other witnesses including the driver of the other white car stopped at the traffic lights, or anyone with relevant dash cam footage, to contact them.
