A new cruise experience on the Tasman Peninsula is expected to draw 20,000 visitors in its first year.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff officially launched Pennicott Wilderness Journeys' Cape Raoul Wilderness Cruise on Monday.

"This new 90-minute route takes passengers to some of the most spectacular sights in the area, including Cape Raoul, Safety Cove, Maingon Bay and Remarkable Cave," Premier Rockliff said.

"Tasmania's tourism industry injects $3.5 billion into the State each year and this new cruise will drive visitation demand in the Tasman Peninsula region.

"Our wilderness, history and heritage are major draw cards for visitors, and the Cape Raoul experience offers tourists and visitors the opportunity to experience the best of Tasmania all year round.

Pennicott Wilderness Journeys' new $2 million Tasmanian-built catamaran will deliver wilderness cruises directly from the Port Arthur Historic Site.

"The Tasmanian Government was proud to support the construction of the new vessel with a $900,000 grant through the Tourism Innovation Grant program," Premier Rockliff said.

"Investing in world-class operators such as Pennicott Wilderness Journeys ensures they can continue to offer premium experiences to visitors.

"As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, we are backing in the tourism industry.

"One in eight Tasmanians work in the tourism and hospitality industry, and we have a plan to sustainable grow visitation, train our next generation of workers and back businesses."
