As the number of positive COVID-19 cases continues to rise, Queensland Corrective Services has made the decision to suspend personal visits to a number of correctional centres this week.
Under the restrictions, personal visits have been suspended for the following correctional centres:
Lotus Glen
Townsville
Maryborough
Arthur Gorrie
Wolston
Brisbane
Brisbane Women's
Borrallon
Numinbah
At this stage, other correctional centres are operating personal visits as normal.
Virtual personal visits remain available subject to movement restrictions within the centres.
The restrictions will be reviewed on a daily basis.
We acknowledge the impact of suspending visits on prisoners and their families, and we appreciate your patience.
Prisoners in Queensland prisons have been offered COVID-19 vaccinations, with very high uptake.
With approximately 1,000 people being released from Queensland prisons every month, and a similar number being received, Queensland Health has moved to a rolling schedule of vaccinations for new prisoners across the State and those who have previously refused vaccination.
Our officers have adhered to the CHO directive and been supported to get vaccinations.
We encourage family members to get vaccinated as soon as they can and to get a booster shot as soon as they are eligible.
Vaccinations will play an important role in keeping our centres COVID-free and preventing future lockdowns.
Updates will be provided on any further changes to personal visits via the Queensland Corrective Services website and Facebook Page.
