Volunteer Stonnington Expo is returning on Friday, 14 March 2025.
Malvern Town Hall will once again be filled with more than 35 organisations and community groups who will be on show to speak to people about volunteering opportunities in Stonnington.
The expo is a fantastic opportunity for our community to meet and connect with our wonderful volunteers and volunteering organisations who make our community more resilient, vibrant, and connected.
The Rotary Club of Malvern, Melbourne Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) and the Share & Swap Shop and will be at the expo and they are keen to meet with volunteers.
The Rotary Club of Malvern are hoping to showcase the variety of support programs they run for various local charities, including recruiting volunteers for their current projects.
"We have two worthwhile projects that we hope to support with volunteers," said Cheryl from Rotary Malvern.
"The Malvern Emergency Food Program, where we need help with arranging collections for food hampers in the City of Stonnington and supporting the mental health program at the Alfred Hospital with the preparation of hygiene bags for clients."
AMEP recruits, trains and places volunteers to support adults from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, as they learn English and settle into Australia. Volunteers support learners with gaining skills and the confidence to participate fully in the community.
Kelly Maughan from AMEP say the expo is an opportunity to engage with individuals who are looking for flexible volunteering opportunities that can make a difference.
"We offer learners the opportunity to practice English conversation and in particular, English for the workplace. Volunteers don't need any qualifications other than to be reasonably fluent in English. We provide free training," said Kelly.
Share & Swap Shop, a community driven initiative that organises pop-up events to promote sharing of pre-loved items, reducing waste and fostering connections among community members, also relies on volunteers. They currently have volunteer opportunities in event registration, promotion, community outreach, event set-up, social media, marketing and transport.
"We hope to showcase the mission of Share & Swap Shop to the wider community and connect with like-minded people and organisations to team up with us," said Meenakshi of Share & Swap Shop.
When asked what qualities they look for in a volunteer, Meenakshi says, "Volunteers should have a passion for sustainability and enthusiasm to connect with diverse backgrounds."
