Volunteers are backbone of our community

In celebrating National Volunteer Week, it highlights the role of volunteers in our community and gives everyone the chance to say thank you.

Mayor Libro Mustica said it was also timely to encourage those who may not currently be engaged in volunteering activities, to search out opportunities to do so.

"On behalf of Moira Shire Council I extend a sincere thank you to the many people who generously volunteer their time and effort for the betterment of local communities," Cr Mustica said.

"I commend you on your generosity and clear commitment to making a difference."

"Your contributions are invaluable and have made a profound impact within our communities and society as a whole."

Cr Mustica said Moira Shire had 33 Section 86 Committees of Management who manage community facilities and open spaces, with nearly 400 volunteers on those committees alone.

"Then there are the literally hundreds of Meals on Wheels volunteers, our L2P learner driver volunteers, our Visitor Information Centre volunteers and the countless other ways members of our community generously donate their time and efforts to make our shire the best place it can be," he said.

"There are many opportunities for members of our community to get involved; if you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please give us a call."
