Volunteers respond to second tornado in two weeks

NSW SES

NSW SES volunteers have responded to 600 requests for assistance after severe thunderstorms affected parts of the state over the past 24 hours.

A tornado caused significant damage in Armidale, where NSW SES received more than 200 requests for assistance.

It is the second tornado to hit the state over the past few weeks, after another tore through Bathurst in September.

It is important to be aware of the conditions that can cause tornadoes and know how to prepare, respond and recover.

Tornadoes are usually associated with supercell thunderstorms and are more common than people might think.

If you require emergency assistance in floods and storms, call the NSW SES on 132 500. In a life-threatening emergency, call 000 (Triple Zero).
