WA Appoints New Energy and Decarbonisation Minister

The Australian Energy Council (AEC), the peak body for energy retailers and generators, congratulates Amber-Jade Sanderson, MP, on her appointment as Western Australia's Minister for Energy and Decarbonisation, Manufacturing and Skills, and TAFE.

The Council also acknowledged and thanked outgoing Minister, Reece Whitby, MP, for his stewardship of the portfolio.

Louisa Kinnear, Chief Executive of the AEC, said Ms Sanderson's appointment comes at a pivotal time for Western Australia.

"There is an urgent need for transmission planning and investment to unlock new generation in the South West Interconnected System, as well as continued guidance on the future energy market to ensure a reliable and affordable system for consumers and industry.

"Ms. Sanderson's appointment comes at a critical time for the state and offers an opportunity to address key issues that could hinder further progress toward net zero," Ms Kinnear said.

"The AEC looks forward to collaborating with Ms. Sanderson on the decarbonisation of Western Australia's electricity supply."
