WA Bike Month Grants Fuel Statewide Community Events

  • More than $75,000 in grants to be shared across 103 WA Bike Month events
  • WA Bike Month is held in October every year
  • The celebration month encourages riders of all ages and abilities to give bike riding a go

The countdown is on for WA Bike Month 2024, with 103 events planned around the State to encourage people of all ages and abilities to hop on their bikes this October.

More than $75,000 in grants has been allocated for local governments, community organisations, schools and workplaces to promote active travel for transport, fun and a healthier lifestyle.

The celebration month sees communities across Western Australia get involved in fun activities, from bike breakfasts and festivals, to bike skills education and workshops.

Local and minor event grant highlights include:

  • $2,000 to the City of Joondalup to host a 'Pedalpalooza' for families during the school holidays - with treasure hunts, BMX coaching sessions, entertainment and food trucks;
  • $1,500 to the Dunsborough and Districts Country Club to host a bike skills session and rides; and
  • $500 to Bramfield Park Primary School's ride to school breakfast where students are encouraged to dress up their bike and complete a bike obstacle course.

Since 2017, the State Government has invested or allocated more than $600 million towards expanding the State's active transport network and is committed to making active travel more convenient and accessible throughout Western Australia.

WA Bike Month is a Department of Transport initiative, supported by RAC and administered by Western Australia's peak body for cycling, WestCycle.

As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:

"Every year we see the effort and dedication of schools, local governments, community organisations and workplaces to host WA Bike Month activities.

"WA Bike Month is a great opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to get involved in our State's biggest celebration of bike riding, discover the joy and benefits of active travel and uncover local riding networks.

"WA Bike Month is one of the many ways our Government is encouraging more people to leave the car at home and hop on their bikes to experience a healthy, sustainable and cost-effective way to get around.

"Around the State we are making significant investments to expand and upgrade our cycle network, with hundreds of kilometres of new paths making our State more connected than ever before."
