- Further upgrades planned at three sites to benefit off-road vehicle riders in WA
- Almost $140,000 of funding to begin next stage of improvement works
- Enhancements will make sites more appealing for riders, families, tourists and locals
The Cook Government has provided funding to carry out further improvement works to the York, Ledge Point and Medina off-road vehicle (ORV) sites.
The Shire of York will receive a $60,000 grant for stage two works at the Oliver Battista York Motocross Track. A $65,000 grant to the Shire of Gingin, who will match funds, will deliver upgrades at Ledge Point. The State Government is also contributing a grant of $13,800 to the City of Kwinana to clean up illegally dumped rubbish at the Medina ORV area.
This is in addition to the $100,000 spent on stage one upgrades at York and Ledge Point, which were completed earlier this year.
The stage two works at the York ORV area include installing a new accessible and compostable toilet facility. Completed stage one works made improvements to the tracks, existing amenities and signage, and created earthworks and vegetation buffers.
Ledge Point's stage two works include installing a covered viewing platform for parents and supervisors, picnic tables, extra fencing, and a wheelchair access pathway. These works complement the junior riders' track completed in stage one.
These investments follow the recent introduction of the Control of Vehicles (Off-road Areas) Amendment Bill 2024, which will enable the online registration of ORVs. Fees collected from registrations will support further investments in establishing and improving ORV areas.

As stated by Local Government Minister Hannah Beazley:
"So many more Western Australians are enjoying off-road motorsports and the Cook Government is committed to investing in off-road vehicle areas to support this growing sport.
"It's important for riders to have dedicated areas to ride, and areas for younger riders to develop their skills.
"I'm pleased these investments will support the Shires of York and Gingin, and the City of Kwinana to deliver works to ensure the areas are more family-friendly and accessible.
"Thank you to the Off-Road Vehicles Advisory Committee, the local governments and rider groups, like Recreational Trailbike Riders' Association, for their work supporting ORV areas."
